AZO Class Announcements
Moved to Kalamazoo a little over 3 years ago and wanted to find a gym for my then 6 yr old son to train BJJ. Was immediately greeted by the friendly faces of not just the coaches, but the members and families as well. My son loved and I soon began to train there followed by my wife, 2 young daughters and my brother. Needless to say, Alliance AZO is my extended family. A great gym with great coaches, great facilities, great people and great atmosphere. Whether you are looking to compete, get in shape, or learn self defense, AZO is the place to train. Glad to be a part of the family!
There is no better choice than Alliance Azo. You will be in the best shape of your life. After a workout there, you won’t have low self esteem. You are always treated with respect, but at the same time inspired to work just as hard as everyone else. Come and challenge yourself and be suprised. It’s also a great way to lower your stress level significantly. Drop by and check it out. Bring the kids!
AZO is in my opinion is a great place to bring your family. the atmosphere is welcoming and every time I’m there I feel as if I’m part of there family. What an amazing place build self confidence meanwhile having a no judgement zone.
I have been training and competing for Allliance AZO for a little more than a few years. My progress was consistent due to my attendance and the careful guidance of all the instructors there. Thanks to the coach Ron Blake, Brian Skjold, David Hernandez, Matt Stringham, Colt Withers, and Jamie Blake I was able to compete and win gold medals at several tournament across Michigan and the surrounding states. I have gained insight through martial arts that can supplement any of my lifestyle goals while continually challenging myself to be a better person and martial arts practitioner. Great Place!
Ron and the entire Alliance AZO group of instructors and students are top notch! I live out of state and dropped in to Alliance AZO a half dozen times and really appreciated training here. Great training facilities, very positive environment, competitive members, great technical instruction, and super welcoming of outsiders and new BJJ students. I would recommend anyone considering starting BJJ, looking for a new school, or just looking to train while on the road, to give Alliance AZO a try – you wont be disappointed.
Everyone is very friendly and supportive. They make you feel like family.
I started training at AZO about a year ago, when I finished college and returned to Kalamazoo. Facilities and instruction are excellent. Huge amount of mat space, plus a raised ring and a smaller mat in the front room. Lots of equipment to work with. The gym has nice locker rooms, bathrooms, and two private showers, which are all kept very clean. The jiu-jitsu team has several upper belts who are all excellent teachers and very willing to work patiently with new people. There’s also a strong community of women there, which is not the case at every gym, and it’s certainly something I appreciate. Everyone is very supportive. I was a little nervous jumping into a new gym, but everyone welcomed me with open arms. I found a team that unites folks of a very wide variety of ages and skill levels; it’s an environment that anyone with an interest in martial arts can feel comfortable in, while also getting a tough workout and learning a lot.
Alliance AZO for the whole family! No matter what your goal is, they will help you reach that and more. Whether you’re there to compete, get in shape, find friends, or just learn….you’ll fit right in with the family. They have kids classes, beginners classes, seminars, fight nights, UFC parties, and they even do birthday parties for the kids, too! Countless opportunities there.
This is where the champs train like yours truly! Love to call this place home, me and the boys really put that work in every night! Come one come all, great environment and we’re all a great gym family!
The AZO Effect
Alliance AZO. It is a martial arts school in Kalamazoo. When you first walk into the building you will notice a couple of things that stand out. It will feel like you are in a compact area. That’s because you are actually standing in the secondary room. Then you will see two locker rooms and two shower stalls. Hygiene and cleanliness are some of the most important aspects of training and Alliance AZO fosters that necessity.
Once you continue through the building you will come to a long hall way with two restrooms to the right and a drinking fountain. Then you’ve made it. It’s the primary room with a large black mat. The mat space stretches nearly 30 yards and then stops. There are punching bags strung all along the mats like Christmas lights. At the end of the West side of the long mat is a raised platform for a fighting ring with a workout equipment area adjacent to it.
Typically there is a class in session. Practitioners of Jiu-JItsu, Judo, or Muay Thai will likely be on the mat. Throwing strikes, attempting throws and chokes. Although these techniques lie on the surface of training, there is something much bigger going on. Alliance AZO has fostered this special “click” and is now woven into its environment. Upon arriving, someone has probably greeted you. Newcomers immediately stick out. Not because they’re unwelcome but because everyone knows each other and are always eager to help.
I have trained at Alliance AZO for three years this coming May 2016. I remember my first time arriving. It immediately felt like a place I’d like to be a part of. It was a similar experience to what I described above. Every return is a novel experience because everyone comes together in the spirit of martial excellence. So if you’re looking for a clean space to train, an active and friendly community, and most importantly a place to grow and develop; choose Alliance AZO. It has been the easiest choice to make for three years and shall continue to be.
